Got approved for a $13000 loan to attend coding boot camp. Should I take it?
Main Post:
I honestly don’t know anything when it comes to coding but I was curious about it. So talked to an advisor and did the placement test and they said they have a seat ready for me this summer. I also wanted to see how much I could get approved for a student loan and I was able to get 13000 on a 93 month term, which would cover all the cost for the coding boot camp. They made it sound like it is very likely I could find entry level jobs not to long after but idk. Do I really need to go to a coding boot camp to get my foot in the door? Or is there a better way to go about this? Oh yea I should mention I want to be a game developer which is why I decided to look into this

Are you going to be learning game development at that coding bootcamp?
Also since you are planning to be a game developer, I would recommend taking a look at what are the requirements for even applying for a game development position. Because I remember back in 2016/2017, in order to apply to work at a gaming community, we already needed to have a game that works and had a couple hundreds active users on it. The competition was very high so students did whatever they could to stand out. So do the research first on how competitive the game industry is.
If you were to do any other type of coding related fields, you don't really need to go to a coding bootcamp and don't have to take any loans (you can study yourself)

University loans & coding boot camp
Main Post:
I graduated with my bachelors from Rutgers about a year ago and I’m trying to career switch over to software engineering (from English, lol). I know coding boot camp is the typical path for people in my situation, but most seem to cost upwards of $10k.
Basically I just want to know whether the student loans I currently have could be paused during the time I’m in boot camp, or if I’d still have to pay them throughout, considering it’s not really possible to work full time AND boot camp.
Any info or advice is appreciated!

10k... If I am going to pay that much for information that's already out there it would be for a degree. There is so much free guidance for programming outside of the non degree seeking route, I would recommend trying to self learn first and making your own projects instead. Lots of companies are moving away from requiring degrees because it's cheaper and you're more trainable, so they know you'll come in with deficiencies and not many projects. It is more important who you know and who you cold message on linkedin. Be able to answer basic coding questions/challenges and keep an open mind on starting salary to get your foot in the door. If you are of a marginalized group (women/poc/lgbt) take advantage of that and find a local coding MeetUp near you that specifically seeks that out. Libgen.is has every book under the sun on anything tech.
Don't sell yourself short over that english degree, english and math probably set you up to understand coding languages better than most.
Getting into Boot Camp with debt
Main Post:
To start off, I have about $19,800 in debt. None in collections, yet. I leave for boot camp November 18th, and plan to utilize my checks from boot camp to knock some of this debt down. I know I'm not going to be making tons of money during boot camp, but I guess that isn't the point.
Does anybody know of any military friendly companies that might help me get into debt consolidation before I leave with this much amount of debt? I am trying to knock out my debt within the first year, if not, the second. Thanks!
Top Comment: Used a benefit called the SCRA. Depending on the debt they should be able to freeze the account until you get paid. If it’s credit card debt you should be able to get a lower interest rate.
Reservist question: do we qualify for VA home loan? Does boot camp and MOS school count toward your “active time” to be eligible?
